*Abstract
Plants originated in the tropical and subtropical zones are sensitive to chilling temperature. In my early career at NIBB, working in the laboratory of Prof. Norio Murata, I studied the mechanism of chilling sensitivity in plants. I created transgenic tobacco plants that showed improved chilling sensitivity by manipulation of lipid compositions in chloroplast phosphatidylglycerol. I will introduce 1) What is lipids? 2) How lipid changes alter the chilling sensitivity of plants?
