Abstract -


How eukaryotic cells sense nutrient conditions to control cell growth is poorly understood.  In mammalian cells, the mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) signaling pathway plays the major role in regulation of the nutrient sensitive cellular growth.  In our recent study, we could identify a novel protein named raptor (regulatory associated protein of mTOR) that forms a stoichiometric complex with mTOR and regulates the mTOR function. I will summarize how this protein was discovered and functions in the mTOR pathway to control the mammalian cell growth
